I care about stories. The old stories that we uncover and explore. The lost stories that we piece back together. And the new stories that we can create today. Most importantly I care about the people that I am trying to reach through these stories, about their voices, and about the community we create together.
I have the immense privilege of telling stories for a living. Primarily in West Yorkshire, though I have been known to travel beyond the Yorkshire boundary… I perform the old tales and co-create new ones with audiences of all ages.
I love to explore how stories might be experienced across media. This has led me into podcasting (with a weirdly popular sci-fi-comedy-drama called Diary of a Space Archivist) and that, in turn, has led me to deliver oral history projects for museums and community groups. I have a background in academia where I taught creative writing and had a research focus in playful engagement, and game philosophy. I’m interested in how story is experienced across gameplay, and I create alternative games, ranging from Alternate Reality Games (ARGs), tabletop games and choose-your-own-adventures.
I also deliver workshops across all ages and for folk with SEND.
The key thing for me is giving value to an audience. They don’t owe me anything; I owe them everything.
