Profile Bio
One of the founders of Southampton Story-Club (1997), Gary has evolved from pirate tales of the high-seas to a vast array of Northern European tales drawn from the translated manuscripts, folklore, and personal observations. Although based at the edge of the New Forest, his background as an environmental scientist provides insights into the natural world and a depth of experiences from his environmental research around the world. Gary has told tales at various festivals, schools, libraries, museums, passenger ferries, and historical ships; and generally roams between the Isles of Scilly and Kent, and the Isle of Wight and Reykavik (Iceland). Gary, and Southampton Story-Club arrange annual events (as well as a monthly meet) and he is equally happy telling tales in woodland glades, halls, stages, ships, quaysides, roundhouses, and Viking festivals. Although, always a pirate at heart, he is also regularly seen as a Green Man, a Viking skald, or a travelling bard.
